Why am I podcasting?

1. To keep up my audio & editing skills

2. If you have a book on podcasting, you better have a podcast

3. To add to the amount of total human knowledge

Two of these are true. But, seriously, why?

I just completed 12 years of weekly shows -665 of them and you have audio books to bothe start and revise.

The simple answer: it's fun.

In my decades in radio, I only worked at four stations: small, medium, big abd really big.

While at station #2, a well know radio personality, Jonathan Green, came to visit us. He was from the legendary station I later work at!

His talk about being in radio hit a chord. He said "How many jobs can you have where youe are paid to have fun?" This did not simply mean simply telling jokes, but having fn entertaining people and being there for them in good times and bad.  It also helped to be observant of what was going around you in the city and to not simply hang around only with "radio people." They tend to get too much free stuff, tickets, food, etc. that listeners don't get.

WTMJs Johnathan Greene was also extremely talented with a great delivery and banter that did not cause the audience to think "I wish he would shut up and play more music!"  That did not come without work. He was a radio legend in Milwaukee with 41 years at WTMJ.

One of the reasons I started podcsting is to keep my hard earned audio skills of recrding and editing sharp. How many times have you had to work at something because you had gotten a bit rusty?

Many podcaster wannabees assume it is easy and fun right away. Like most things it is not. For example in my live eBay selling class I  arrived the first night with a beat up golf club.  I said I bought it for 50 cents and this weekend I would try my hand at golf. It was a "what could possibly go wrong?" kind of stunt. I said I had no other clubs, didn't know what this specific club was for and had no idea of how to score a game or what rules to follow. Then I said that trying to sell on eBay without learning rules, techiniques and handy tips would also be a disaster.

With podcasting you needs to learn some skills and keep working on them.

This is very important news for podcsasting wannabbbes and a principal reason for the high rate of failures.
